tay's window treatment

i take forever to make decisions when it comes to my personal home....too much great stuff at my finger tips combined w/ indecisiveness.  it leads to an undone house.  i often tell my clients to store inspiration photos somewhere so you can use these as a tool to show your sense of style.  i have a storage folder for my house on the computer.  and one thing that keeps popping up are these window treatments (you will start to see patterns in the photos you keep).  so since i find myself drawn to these, it's time to just do it!!!  i'm thinking tay's room....much like pic #1 (she already has light pink walls)-white linen roman shade but i think i am going to use the leftover la fiorentina from her headboard as the border accent.

Great New Product

Do you feel sad sometimes? Are you tired when you get up in the morning? Do you get winded running sprint intervals? I've just found a great new product that I think can help. It's called bozolol.

Bozolol is an amazing nutritional supplement extracted from the bozolol berry, harvested wild in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. To the native Ilotaca tribe, the bozolol berry is sacred because it alters the molecules in your brain to make you smarter AND sexier.

Here's how it works: bozolol actually
increases the uptake of fat-soluble vitamins from your food, while reducing inflammation in the arteries and helping you shed fat faster than a pork roast! Guaranteed! Learn more about it here

April fools!

Busy day for Kit Heath!

Today has been an eventful one for us at Kit Heath.

Firstly, we announced the winner of this seasons Facebook Competition! We were thrilled to randomly select Hjordis as our seasons winner and were able to post off this afternoon her selected prize from the new collection.
To enter the competition was simple, all you needed to do was find your favorite piece from the new collection album and tell us which one it was and why on our Facebook page.
Hjordis chose the new Oasis Pebble Necklace and commented "I love the oasis pebble necklace its simple yet sophisticated and stylish and a fabulous colour. Love the matching rings and earrings too" we could not agree more! Its a lovely classic piece.
And as if that was not enough excitement for one day we decided we would launch our Beachcomber Spring Offer. Offering a massive 50% off selected Beachcomber Pebble Beads, any one would think we were going slightly mad, but no, we are just taking advantage of being able to have a Spring clean in readiness for our imminent Beachcomber summer launch.

More exciting news coming up next week. We will keep you informed!

Dr. Kevin Patterson on Western Diets and Health

A few readers have pointed me to an interesting NPR interview with the Canadian physician Kevin Patterson (link). He describes his medical work in Afghanistan and the Canadian arctic treating cultures with various degrees of industrialization. He discusses the "epidemiological transition", the idea that cultures experience predictable changes in their health as they go from hunter-gatherer, to agricultural, to industrial. I think he has an uncommonly good perspective on the effects of industrialization on human health, which tends to be true of people who have witnessed the effects of the industrial diet and lifestyle on diverse cultures.

A central concept behind my thinking is that it's possible to benefit simultaneously from both:

  • The sanitation, medical technology, safety technology, law enforcement and lower warfare-related mortality that have increased our life expectancy dramatically relative to our distant ancestors.

  • The very low incidence of obesity, diabetes, coronary heart disease and other non-infectious chronic diseases afforded by a diet and lifestyle roughly consistent with our non-industrial heritage.

But it requires discipline, because going with the flow means becoming unhealthy.

[CFP] GraphiCon-2011 and MSCVSS

Our lab traditionally organizes GraphiCon, the major (and may be the only) conference in Russia specialized in computer graphics and computer vision. The conference is not very selective, still it has a decent community of professionals behind it. So, if you want to get a quality feedback on your preliminary work, or always wanted to visit Russia, consider submitting a paper by May, 16.

Special offer for young readers of my blog: If it is the place where you learned about the conference and decided to submit a paper, I'll buy you a beer during the conference. :) Consider it another social micro-event.

Another piece of news is primarily for undergrads and PhD students from Russia. Our lab and Microsoft Research organize another event this summer: Computer vision summer school. There are such lecturers as Cristoph Lampert and Andrew Zisserman, among others. Participation is free of charge, and accommodation is provided. Deadline is on April, 30. You should not miss it!
